A quiet room, away from heavy foot traffic, loud noise or other pets, helps the settling-in process considerably. Some reduced appetite or reduced activity in the first day or two is common and not automatically a concern, since travel and a new environment are stressful events for any animal.

The difference shows up in the detail. A generic all-purpose substrate is formulated to be safe and workable across many species with different digging habits, humidity needs and diets, which means it's rarely suited especially well to any one of them. Lighting fittings vary in size and mounting style between manufacturers, and substrate depth requirements differ depending on which enclosure and species combination is being used.
